

Dr. Park and his wife Joanne live in Wichita, Kan. with their dogs (English Springer and Cavalier King Charles spaniels). Besides spending time with their animals, Dr. Park enjoys distance running and reading in his spare time. Joanne loves gardening, horseback riding, reading and yoga and together they are both fond of gourmet cooking.
Both Joanne and Dr. Park are involved at many levels in the community. Dr. Park is committed to outreach efforts in stemming the epidemic of diabetes. He and Joanne are involved in many community groups that serve and champion services for children with visual impairments.
Dr. Park has practiced 22 years of academic hospital-based, interdisciplinary neurological and low vision rehabilitation with staffs consisting of COAs, COTs, O & Ms, CLVTs, OTs, nurses and social workers.
He served as a Member (1993-1997) and as the Chairman (1993-1997) of the Driving Issues Committee, American Optometric Association Low Vision Section, in addition to serving as Health Consultant, Michigan State Department of Motor Vehicles (1987-1998). From 1998-1999 he was a Member of the Motorists Vision Policy Working Group, American Optometric Association.
Dr. Park functioned as Director of Low Vision Service at Beaumont Eye Institute, William Beaumont Hospital, Lions Research & Rehabilitation Center, Wilmer Eye Institute-Johns Hopkins University and Appalachian Center for Vision Rehabilitation, West Virginia University Eye Institute.
He is also a past Clinical Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Michigan and Illinois Colleges of Optometry, respectively. He was a research co-investigator in five NIH/NEI grants, authored or co-authored over 25 peer-review papers and authored one book chapter primarily on rehabilitation of the neurologically and visually impaired. He has lectured extensively around the world.
He was also instrumental in the development of a miniaturized telescope, which brought worldwide attention and recognition via a small news clip that was syndicated round the world and brought a six-month backlog of patients.
